Meet Our Team

Deanna

Deanna is the Owner and Stylist.

Deanna Everson

Deanna started her career in Psychology, graduating from Portland State University and working for the Christie School as a staff Treatment Counselor in their Group Home program. She switched gears about 11 years ago after a disturbingly botched bang trim she received, and is now cutting hair and taking numbers here at Ginger Salon. Deanna is the owner of this epic establishment, the trainer for all of Ginger Salon's New Talent Stylists, and also a genius hairstylist herself. She does not like slouching. She considers herself a Hair Coloring Specialist and an extreme social dork who has been known to go to Sci Fi Conventions and High School Dance Team Competitions when necessary.

I'm Deanna Everson, owner of Ginger Salon. Ginger, and I have to admit something: I'm obsessed with Oregon. Let me explain my obsession with starting at the very, very beginning of my love affair with this state:

I grew up in Banks, Oregon (pop. 550). To be honest, I really really didn't like growing up there. I always thought I was missing out on something much bigger, much more fabulous, more dangerous and mysterious, just more. I spent my early adulthood trying to find that something. Let me see here.....six times to New York City, San Francisco, Sedona, Seattle, Chicago, Cinque Terre, Palmer, Hawaii, Park City, etc. etc. etc. blah blah blah blah blah. Yep, lots of searching. Here's the funny part: I missed my blanket of trees. And oh yes, I missed the rain. Call me crazy. It was like I would step off the plane and be like, wow, this place is not fabulous. Where are the trees? Or wow, this place has a case of the lamey lame-oh, it's freaking humid/flat/scary/hot/cold/disturbingly religious/conservative/too liberal/much much to cool, and back to the blah blah blah blah etc. etc. etc. I was even thinking of moving to L.A. at the beginning of my hair career. Yes that's right, a red head in L.A. Can you imagine? If I couldn't handle Sedona, then L.A. I would have been able to handle?

So here's the scoop: I'm not moving. Been there, tried that, not happening. Portland is my home, my life, my family, and I love it here. Go ahead and ask me, I'll give you at least 50 reasons as to why Portland and Oregon rock. So this is how it's going to work.... I'll do the traveling, the training, the searching, the teaching, and I'll pile it all into my little bag of information and bring it back to my city, and Ginger Salon. I will make Portland a hair destination for the world, then I will never have to move again. And you won't either! You can just buy organic, drive a hybrid, join a bicycle gang, watch the swifts, zoo bomb, get cracked out on Stumptown, become vegan for a week, picket a fur company, skate with Tonya and have the best hair in the country. How's that sound?

Stina

Stina is our Stylist Manager and a Master Stylist.

Stina Leep

I started beauty school as a fluke the week of my 17th birthday. I didn't know what I was going to do with my life (I was just a baby), but after a brief stint working at the Dollar Tree I knew I had a greater capacity to contribute to the world then selling cheap knick knacks. Coming to that conclusion is where it starts to get really good for me; I went on to do a two year apprenticeship in the SW suburbs. I was trained in Bumble and Bumble styling – a company whose education has surpassed many other companies in recent years. I found I craved education so education I have found. At the end of my apprenticeship I headed to the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Toronto to train as a precision cutting specialist. During this trip I realized that my career choice wasn't a fluke, I actually thrive doing it. And love it, that's a total blessing.

Training gave me the power of observation, mixed with creativity to completely hone in on what makes a great haircut. Now, I find I'm always craving more education and hope to return to Vidal in the foreseeable future.

Since then I have been working with Kevin Murphy, an Australian based product line that is very 'Portland'. Sulfate and Parabin free and a bunch of other awesome attributes I could rattle off if you ever asked. I no longer use Bumble and Bumble products, but the education I received mixed with Kevin Murphy makes it so I can give one mean blow out. I have also attended countless Goldwell color classes (with my hopes set on going to their academy as well), a color line used by many top salons for its longevity and gently chemical make-up. I'm obsessed with it. I can custom mix colors for a person. …so that no one else in Portland will have that shade of brown, that prefect balance between a warm and cool blonde. To be perfectly honest, this is a truly selfish purpose because I love to see people’s faces light up when I get it just right.

Currently, I am on year 9 with this as my career (still young, but less baby) and working on year 6 with Ginger Salon. I am also the Salon manager. As a manager I help guide stylists with goal setting and help them achieve personal and technical growth, while working in a really fun team environment. Although numbers will never be my strong suit I love the one on one connection with my co-workers.

On more personal note; I am a hopeless romantic, even when I'm not in the middle of my own romance. Spoiler alert: I'm 2 years into a romance and will have my first baby in July 2015. I have a 6 year old dog, who is super chubby and naughty that I'm slightly obsessed with. And I want to meet you. And do your hair.

Darren

Darren is our Office Manager.

Darren McLaggan

Darren runs Ginger Salon. He's the reason Ginger Salon runs like a well-oiled fabulosity machine. Because Ginger Salon strives to create a stronger society, and with that a more powerful dominating work force,  Darren's compensation parallels that of a big business manager. Because let's get real, he's a dominator; you know this.

Taylor Dobbs and Katie Clark assist Darren in his daily operation of Ginger Salon, and they are seriously spectacular.

Joy Bush

I attended the Aveda Institute of Portland in 2012. After graduating I came straight to Ginger Salon and I am never going to leave. I love Ginger Salon and they will have to drag me out of here kicking and screaming when I'm too old and frail to do hair anymore.

I live in the Russell neighborhood with husband, three FIV+ cats, and two rescue dogs. We are a big furry, happy family. My husband Brad and I have been married since 2009.

When not creating fabulous hair I love to watch pro wrestling, cross-stitch and watch TV on DVD. I am very excited for the new season of Game of Thrones.

I am a Master Stylist at Ginger Salon. In addition to completing an intensive apprenticeship program with owner, Deanna Everson, I have received advanced training through Goldwell, Kevin Murphy and the Sassoon Academy in San Francisco.

Kate is a Master Stylist.

Kate Pierovich

Kate has worn many hats—or rather hair colors—in her time as a stylist. After training at the Aveda Institute, Kate landed in Hollywood where she coiffed celebrities for commercials, film, and red carpet events by night, and worked as a hairdresser for Cal Martini Color Group in Beverly Hills by day. Although she loved working among the stars, this California girl shines in Portland where the weirdness complements her bubbly demeanor.

Kate’s philosophy is that your hair is an extension of your personal style, and she wants you to walk away feeling confident that your hair reflects your personality.

When she’s not styling, you can find her in a park flipping through Allure and other magazines to keep up on the latest beauty trends, or laughing in comedy clubs.

Schedule a consultation with Kate to find your perfect style! If you’re into Star Wars, dogs, or Bigfoot, you’ll have plenty to talk about in the chair

Emily Olsen

Emily has been at Ginger since February 2014, where she completed our apprenticeship program and became a lead stylist after attending an advanced cutting class at Vidal Sassoon in San Francisco.

Emily moved to Portland in 2012 from Anchorage, Alaska. She has a pug she's slightly obsessed with named Brew, and a sassy cat named Winnie that loves to lounge. Emily loves to bake, read, whiskey, has a God given skill for shuffleboard, and loves Netflix. Ask her if she watches your favorite show, I bet she does. She grew up playing hockey, and has a deep love for Justin Timberlake, but I mean, who doesn't?

Her first encounter with hair was when she asked her cousin to cut her hair into a bob, hoping that it would make her hair straight. Guess what? It didn't.

Since then Emily has had every hair color and length possible, and loves big changes and teaching people ways to embrace their natural texture. She loves exploring beauty blogs and YouTube to find tutorials on new trends and loves to experiment with styling and up-dos.

Brooke Robinson

Brooke Robinson earned her reputation as a trendsetting hair stylist through her extensive experience, laid-back personality and keen eye for detail. Brooke was drawn to the industry because of her own frizzy, unruly hair. Always wanting to dramatically change her own style, she believes that a person’s look is ever evolving throughout their lifetime.

Often called a hair psychic, Brooke believes in creating color and style that work for each individual. By asking the right questions, Brooke comes to the perfect look and maintenance level for each client. She specializes in long hair, short hair, bridal, men's styling, multi-dimensional color and balayage.

Brooke is influenced by her surroundings, the places she’s traveled to, and classic and timeless beauty. She draws her inspiration from art, pop culture icons, film, and '90s supermodels.

After working extensively in South Florida, Oakland and New York, Brooke and her family recently moved to Portland to plant their roots in the Pacific Northwest. Brooke has two dogs (a Havanese Manny, golden doodle Alfie), a young son (Merritt) and an undying love for the band No Doubt.

Molly Sadowski

Molly is a color enthusiast and is kind of obsessed with how a new cut and color can totally give someone a huge boost in self confidence. She is a former Aveda educator and has over 8 years experience in the beauty industry. As featured in Lucky magazine, Molly is also a hair stylist and makeup artist for events such as Portland Fashion Week, editorial photo shoots and weddings.

Molly grew up in Northern California and moved to Denver right out of high school, where she went to beauty school and started her career. When she decided that she had her fill of snow and needed a little more moisture in the air she and her daughter packed up and came to the Pacific Northwest. They love it here and have found their home!

If Jillian Michaels and Martha Stewart had a baby it would be her spirit animal. On the rare occasion that she doesn’t have her hands in hair, you will find Molly perfecting her gluten-free baking recipes with daughter Mia, watching trashy television, snuggling with her crazy cat Bruno Mars, or training for her next marathon.

Ashlee Montano

I was born and raised in Colorado and graduated from Paul Mitchell in 2014.

Ever since I graduated I've fallen in love with all things hair: Short cuts, long cuts, all of the hair color, new styling techniques, editorial photoshoots... You name it, I probably love it!

I have been doing hair for two years, but wanted to focus more on women's precision cutting and colors. I'm a currently doing the apprenticeship program with Deanna and Stina to perfect my skills and become more epic at what I love doing!

When I'm not obsessing over fun hair or the funky cool city that we live in, I can usually be found hanging out with my pup (Roxanne), hiking and adventuring all over Oregon, watching videos of animals doing hilarious things, exploring Portland, or rereading Harry Potter.

Reegan Priest

I moved to Portland in September 2014 to attend Aveda Institute Portland. Where I solidified my passion for the craft and my desire to be anything but ordinary. Naturally I wanted to learn from the best, which lead me to Ginger Salon!

I am currently in the apprenticeship program, and am on the floor as New Talent come late January. I have a passion for a good craft night, even though the execution isn't always there, and, like any girl I'm constantly attempting to perfect the ability to put winged liner on in a moving car.

During my free time I play with my cats a lot, love discovering a new podcast, and attempting to learn this whole "cooking/adulting" thing.

On a get real note... I think our world is obsessed with instant gratification of change, both inside and outside. Though that may not be possible all the time, I get to play a big part of that with my own two hands. That's pretty cool.... I think!

Abigail

Abigail is a Lead Stylist.

Abigail Curry

Abigail arrived in Portland in 2008, a proud transplant from Kansas City, Missouri.

Yes. There's a Kansas City in Missouri. AND Kansas.Like- Missouri is to Kansas, as Portland is to Vancouver.

Only it's a street called “State Line” that separates the two states, instead of a river that separates the two cities.

Anyhow, Abigail began her craft 15 years ago at The Vidal Sassoon Academy, Santa Monica, California. The foundation of her approach is precision-haircutting and integrity-based hair color techniques. She views cyber-education as revolutionary to the hair industry, and learns something new to share with her clients every day. Her desire to surround herself with the best, and her commitment to lessen her global footprint, are what brought her to the classy, sassy, earth-friendly, Ginger Salon!

She especially enjoys creating lived-in, modern hair shapes, and fresh, graceful color. Scalp health = hair health!

She has a special love for the curly girls, and is in the process of learning how to better care for natural, ethnic textures and PoC. Clients rave about her scalp massages and love that it's okay to be quiet in her chair.

Abigail enjoys spending her summers lounging on river rocks, her winters reading, her rainy days on bicycle, her sunny days in bed…and considers herself a year-round groupie for (the manager of) local band - The Lower 48! She is a Capricorn, who makes quick decisions about hair, and slow decisions about everything else in life. It took her 9 years to decide to apply to Ginger Salon.

You could say she's pretty happy to be here.

Jasmine Pemberton

Hello Portland! I'm so happy to be back in this beautiful city. I hail from the Bay Area but have lived here back in 2010. Missing the quirkiness, I found myself daydreaming of working at Ginger Salon! Life panned out when friends from home, Darren and Kady, told me a spot was open here at Ginger!

Anyways... back to hair.

I grew up in my mother's salon sweeping the floor after school; meanwhile dying to jump in and get my hands on hair! After giving college a try I convinced my mother to let me attend the Redken beauty school. She was reluctant at first, but made me promise to show her the stars. I was obsessed with it. K-12 school never clicked me but all of a sudden I was sitting in the front row in theory and staying late to finish projects. I found my passion.

I spent time assisting & working at a big, fancy salon right after school but found my groove at a more intimate space like Ginger. I truly enjoy getting to know each client in my chair and coming up with a custom look to fit you!

Balayage, vibrant color & the perfect cut make my day! I'm inspired by 60's & 70's fashion icons & modern trend setters. See you in my chair soon!
